Inflamed Cervix
An inflamed cervix can be a sign of cervical dysplasia, in this case, a cone biopsy may be performed in order to aid with infertility.
Vulvovaginitis may also result from the infection as well ascending infection that can cause endometritis, salpingitis, tuboovarian abscess, or perihepatitis. Patients usually show cervical erythema and discharge commonly caused by sexually transmitted bacterial infection. Cervicitis is tender red swelling located at the neck near the vaginal orifice.

Compared to older populations, sexually active adolescents and young adults have a higher incidence of both chlamydeous and gonococcus cervicitis. Primary diseases result from rising infection to the uterus and fallopian tubes (pelvic inflammatory disease) leading to chronic abdominal pain and infertility.
