Colposcopy and biopsy can be performed together, if the patient complains upon abnormal vaginal discharge, as severe disorders can even lead to miscarriage.
If there are abnormal cells on the cervix, the doctor will order other tests. It can be done even if the patient is pregnant. The exam is not painful and has no side effects. In this test, the doctor looks at the cervix through an instrument called a colposcope.
