When a leep treatment is suggested, there is a chance that it will increase infertility because of scar tissue and is usually done when an HPV wart virus is detected. The procedure is rather easy and is performed in the physician’s office with anesthesia. Possible complications may include mild pain, bleeding, itching and cervical discharge. After the procedure a patient should not have sexual intercourse, use tampons and douche for several weeks. This procedure is performed for removing abnormal cells from the surface of the cervix in moderate and severe forms of cervical dysplasia. If they are not cut off, the development of cervical cancer is possible. The diagnosis is made by a Pap smear and colposcopy.
